At the meeting, two sides agreed that the bilateral cooperation on child adoption achieved the encouraging results, helping Vietnamese children find their new home and integrate to their new life in Italy. This partly reflected the successful implementation of Child Adoption Agreement between two countries.

At present, the number of Vietnamese children adopted in Italy is increasing. In 2010, more than 80 children have been adopted by Italian families and other cases are being considered.

The Deputy Minister noted that the achieved results were due to the effective operation and legal obedience of seven Italian child adoption organizations in Vietnam (Italy is the country with the largest number of child adoption organizations in Vietnam) as well as the close cooperation between the Department of Child Adoption (under Ministry of Justice of Vietnam) and Italian Commission for Adoption. He also emphasized the transparency of Vietnam’s legal stipulation on Child Adoption, in the process of building the Decree guiding the implementation of Adoption Law as well as in procedures to integrate Hague Convention on International Child Adoption. He affirmed that these activities would create legal framework between Vietnam and other countries in the field of child adoption.

As for her, Ms Baccheta expressed the unanimity and highly appreciated the transparency of the child adoption activities in Vietnam in accordance with the new legal framework. She also hoped to further the cooperation between two countries in the area of child adoption.

Two sides agreed to boost the bilateral relation and to enhance the roles of Child Adoption Department (under Ministry of Justice of Vietnam) and the Commission for Intercountry Adoptions in order to closely guideline the process of child adoption between Vietnam and Italy./.-ITD
