Conference on "Liability for damages outside the contract"

Deputy Minister Dinh Trung Tung on December 6 delivered opening speech at the Conference on liability for damages outside the contract held by Vietnam – France legal house with the participation of Prof. Denis Mazeaud from Pantheon-Assas Paris II University- France, Prof. Duong Dang Hue- director of Economic-Civil Legislation Department under Ministry of Justice- and many Vietnamese legal experts and lawyers.

At the conference, Professor Denis Mazeaud presented an overview of France’s compensation laws outside the contract with the contents of compensation to the community when an individual causes damage to many people in which specific damages to each person are not identified. Another problem mentioned is the new trend of the international legislative - "the objectivity" of behaviors causing damage through minimizing the role of error in civil liability.

Addressing at the Conference, Deputy Minister Dinh Trung Tung emphasized that Vietnam is now preparing to amend the Civil Code, therefore it needs to learn experiences from many countries, especially those countries with long growing histories such as France, Germany and Japan. Besides, the Ministry of Justice should continue to researching on Russian civil law because the current Civil Code of Vietnam was based on the theory of Russian civil law.
