Workshop on Dispute Settlement between the Government and foreign investors

Department of International Law, Ministry of Justice in cooperation with Project on supporting the law implement for the international economic integration, STAR Plus from July 12th to 13th held a workshop named “Disputed settlement between the government and foreign investors workshop: The role of Ministry of Justice and the mechanism on coordination among ministries, sectors and localities”.
Attending at this workshop were representatives from Ministries of Justice, Industry and Trade, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Transport, Health, Agriculture and Rural Development, Construction, Public Security, People’s Committee of cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, Universities of Foreign Trade, Hanoi Law, Institute of Legal Science,…
In the workshop, experts from USA provided their experiences to prevent and deal with disputed settlement between the government and foreign investors, analyzed the office models which could help settling the dispute and the mechanism on coordination among units under the government. Vietnamese experts also delivered speeches about investment dispute settlement issues and difficulties which Vietnam had at currently and the solutions. Draft on amendment to Decree 93/2008/ND-CP on functions, duties, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Justice to ensure the role of the Ministry of Justice in settling investment disputes effectively between government and foreign investors also was introduced in the workshop.
Experts discussed and raised solutions to related problems in real case. Therefore, this workshop provided valuable experience on investment dispute settlement, it also contributed on building major projects of settling disputes between the government and foreign investors in coming time.
