The forum focused on gender equality and integration in the process of creating and implementing the law.

Mr. Eamonn Murphy said that the forum also aims to identify the role of the legislative sector in solving issues in gender equality and the protection of women’s rights.

In opening the dialogue, Deputy Minister of Justice Nguyen Thuy Hien stated that Vietnam has achieved major accomplishments in promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights.

Many important presentations have been made respectively by Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh - Deputy Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Ms. Amarsanaa Darisuren - human rights specialist - UN Women East and Southeast Asia Regional Office, Dr. Tran Van Quang – Director of Personnel and Organization Department under Ministry of Justice and Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Advancement of Women in the justice sector.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Anh stressed the need to specify challenges in incorporating gender issues into the building and enforcement of law, especially those come from the perception and awareness of a part of organisations and individuals involved in the work. 

She proposed that the government should make a report on the actual implementation of integrating gender issues into laws that is assigned to compile. On this basis, a project will be developed to improve the quality of incorporating gender issues into legal documents drafted by relevant agencies.
