In the courtesy call, Minister Le Thanh Long congratulated Ambassador Rivera on her new mission to Viet Nam and strongly emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the special diplomatic relationship between the two governments and the people of Viet Nam and Cuba which had been exemplified by the loyalty and impartiality through the test of time. Minister Le Thanh Long hoped and believed that Ambassador Rivera, during her term of office, would always offer diligent support and attention to promote the cooperation between the two countries in legal and judicial fields to bring about promising results to the process of legal and judicial reforms of both countries which would in turn contribute to fostering the traditional diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Cuba.
Introducing to Ambassador Rivera about the functions, tasks and powers of the Ministry of Justice of Viet Nam, Minister Le Thanh Long stated that one of the long-term main tasks of the Ministry as well as the Justice Sector was shifting the main focus from drafting law to completing law and implementing law, especially in institutional improvement of the socialist-oriented market economy, in legal and judicial reforms and in promoting regional and international integration. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice of Viet Nam hoped to further promote legal and judicial cooperation with international partners, including Cuba.
Congratulating on Viet Nam’s reform accomplishments in the past few years, especially the success in legal and judicial reforms, Ambassador Rivera expressed the willingness of Cuba in learning from, sharing experiences to and cooperating with Viet Nam in legal and judicial fields on the basis of mutual benefit. Ambassador Rivera was also committed to arranging the working visit of the Cuban Minister of Justice to Viet Nam in the year 2018 as planned.
